General Rules for Dress

 2009-10 Academy Dress Code

The Academy at Andalusia Ballet has a dress code for all students that enables the teacher to best see and evaluate each student. Teachers must be able to see the ankles, knees, hips, ribcage, neck, face, shoulders and elbows clearly. Leotards and tights should be worn without underwear underneath. Loose clothing or warm ups are not allowed in any class. Jewelry, watches, and other items are a distraction to both student and teacher and are not permitted in any class

Where to Purchase Dancewear:

We recommend that you purchase your dancewear at

Town and Country. Their staff is aware of our dress code requirements and preferences and can assist you in

your dress code needs.

  • Students are expected to be property attired for each class.
  • Hair must be neatly secured away form the face for all classes and girls should
wear their hair in a bun for ballet.
  • All students should wear a cover-up to and from the studio.
  • Dance shoes should be worn only in the studio
  • For all girls: Hair must be pulled back off of the face in a bun. We recommend using a hair net over your bun. Please come to your class with your hair correctly done. Our teachers do not have time to fix everyone’s hair.

About Shoes

After you purchase new ballet shoes, put them on and tie a single knot in the drawstring so that shoe fits comfortably around top of foot. Take off the shoe and tie a second and even third knot, cut the extra drawstrings off and tuck the ends inside the shoe.

Do not tie the strings in a bow.

The Academy has a used ballet shoe box located in the Sr. Company Room.

Feel free to drop-off old shoes are borrow a pair if needed.

Please ask the studio manager about borrowing shoes.

Mark all dance shoes and clothing clearly with the dancers name.
